10,500 bookings made during the first six hours of Caminito del Rey website
More than 30,000 visits to the website after its opening last Monday.
The natural beauty spot, which was refurbished thanks to the County Council investment of 5.5m euros, is opening to visitors next Saturday, on March 28th.
El Caminito del Rey web page was registered today. During the first six hours, 10,500 tickets were booked for the route along the new boardwalks from the opening day (next Saturday, March 28th) on. The web page www.caminitodelrey.info is the only place where you can book your tickets, which will be free for, at least, six months from the opening.
The big amount of visits from different places all around Spain and Europe saturated the network server for an hour after the website was opened. Once this problem had been solved, booking platform started to work, and 10,500 tickets were booked until 7 p.m.
There is to underline that the tickets can be booked for up to two months before the visit, and that the total number of visitors allowed is six hundred a day according to the regulations presented yesterday by the County Council President Elîas Bendodo, and the mayors of Álora and Ardales, Josê Sánchez and Juan Calderón.
Very soon, it will be possible to book for groups of maximum fifty people. This option is currently being prepared by the County Council company - Costa del Sol Tourism, with the help of active tourism operators due to the characteristics of the natural beauty spot and the tourist offer created after the refurbishment of the boardwalks.
The website is available in Spanish, English, French and German. Moreover, the booking platform includes basic information about the natural beauty spot at El Caminito del Rey Path, and about the part of the route at the Gaitanes Gorge. When booking, it is necessary to select one of the two access ways (from Álora or Ardales).
We recommend train
The distance between the two access points in Álora and Ardales, at the ends of the boardwalks, is 6 kilometres. There are 2,5 kilometres more if you count the way from the King’s Chair and EL Chorro Train Station. Estimated time of the route is 3 hours, and we recommend you to come by train.
Considering that the opening of the path is during the winter timetable (from November 1st to March 31st), the first visit to the path is going to be at 10 a.m., and the last possible at 2 p.m. During the summer time, the path opens at 10 a.m. as well, but it closes at 5 p.m.
Adults and children older than eight and under supervision of their guardians will be allowed to access El Caminito del Rey as long as they come 30 minutes before the booking time at the chosen access point. The Public Space and Safety Regulations indicate that there are no restaurants nor toilets along the path, which takes few hours to be crossed. They also say this is an active tourism activity that requires a certain physical effort and, logically, caution, although the path is not dangerous.
