The Great Málaga Path, El Caminito del Rey Path and the Coastal Path are to obtain information points with WiFi, lightening and USB chargers

This is a pilot project, which will be extended progressively, and is meant to reinforce financial power of the municipalities from the area.

This innovative device was made by Sunrise Gridfree Company, and it was supported by the County Council and the Town Council of Málaga.

The County Council of Málaga will install infosenderos (info-trails), innovative and sustainable information points with solar power, on the Great Málaga Path, El Caminito del Rey Path and the Coastal Path. These have multiple functions, such as data transfer, useful for the user and environmental levels control, which can also be used as an early warning fire detection and alarm system.

‘This pilot project will consist of four devices, and is going to be progressively extended to the above three tourist spots’, explained Francisco Oblarê, County Council Vice-president and Local Modernization representative, when he presented the new purely Malaga’s project together with Marina Bravo, Environmental Department representative, and Sunrise Gridfree general manager Marco Aceña.

‘The devices will offer useful information to users and tourists who come to the Great Málaga Path, in order to improve the service. There will be WiFi, twelve hours light, a charger with USB port, fire alarm system, atmospheric data control. The devices offer multiple services and uses’, claimed Francisco Oblarê.

Although the aim of the project is to use all possible applications that the devices have, their main functions will be tourist information, lightening, USB chargers, and movement control.

The main idea of the project is to offer a better and complete service to users, and to help surrounding municipalities’ economic development. This is possible thanks to the possibility that local companies have to advertise their products, restaurants and hotel as well, through these devices.

‘Tourists who go along the Great Path can connect on WiFi when they get to the device, and can find and download information about plant and animal life in the area, about close places they can visit or where they can have a meal and buy typical products’, the County Council Vice-president said.

The devices were made by Sunrise Gridfree company, with the workers from the now defunct Isofotón. The project was supported by the County Council and the Town Council of Málaga.

‘The plan is that the company continues making devices for the Great Málaga Path, the Coastal Path and El Caminito del Rey, and starts launching the same products for international market as well’, the County Council representative said.

Mr Oblarê emphasized that ‘six initial job openings can turned into hundreds after the project has been completed. This way we are contributing employment creation and we stimulate the economy of the province.’

The pilot project includes the installation of four devices on El Caminito del Rey Path, one on the Coastal Path and one on the Great Málaga Path. Sunrise Gridfree general manager Marco Aceña thanked to the County Council and the Town Council of Málaga for their support for the project of Málaga Valley, which ‘aims to create employment’.

The Devices

They are based on an intelligent solar power storage devices that, thanks to its information running system, its digital content and independent power supply, can be placed anywhere. Moreover, they are designed to become part of the environment and cause no damage to it.

As they use solar power, no additional expenses are required or cables needed. The devices supply with twelve hours long lightening (eight at maximum power), which is a deterring factor that improves safety measures in the area as well.

Thanks to the WiFi service, users can connect on the Intranet where they can obtain necessary information. One of the plans of the project is to contact local restaurants and hotel so they could make a profit, offering their prices, special offers, menus and set meals in this way.

There is also a possibility to achieve and save data for statistics after people’s transit has been registered. ‘Users can help collect information in order to know more about the uses of the path and adapt services that are offered’, the representative explained.

The devices control environmental levels, such as air quality, temperatures, humidity, wind or atmospheric pressure. They detect gases, like carbon dioxide, methane, sulphide, ozone, or dust, etc. One of their functions is to work as an early warning fire detection and alarm system.

The devices can be located with GPS in order to prevent robbery and permit monitoring and an online upgrade. This way they can be managed from distance by the County Council of Town Councils.
