  • Ways to tour

Regarding the kind of transport which can be used along different stages of the path, these are divided in those that can be crossed on foot, on a mountain bike, or on a horse. Nevertheless, there is to know that you can walk along the entire stage when this class of routes is indicated, but if you decide to travel on a mountain bike or horse, there is to check that there are no temporary restrictions or town regulations that do not allow their use at some parts of a stage, and then choose alternative way. We also underline that riding a mountain bike on some stages may include travelling by uneven or steep road surface, which requires some or a lot of effort.

There are three little Spanish fir forests, which cover 90 hectares of the highest tops of the Sierra Bermeja. They extend on the northern slopes of Los Reales and Los Realillos in Genalguacil, and about three different areas on the slope of La Mujer (The Woman) in Casares The area of Estepona faces sea and has a fascinating forest with pine trees, maritime pines and an increasing number of firs.

The forest with circumboreal origin just few kilometres away from the shore is the result of a special climate, influenced by the closeness of the strait and a big altitude of the mountain range.

Even in summer, it often rains after the clouds go through the Spanish firs and maritime pines branches.

It is curious that from certain places along the route it is possible to see the only two other areas in the whole world where the Spanish fir grows: the Sierra de las Nieves and the Sierra del Pinar in Cádiz.

The Summits of Los Reales and Los Realillos (or Castellón) have long rocky slopes at the high points of the route.  There is to be careful with sunny and hot weather, wind and fog.
